Rabeeah Ali. Pastels of Paris. 2014. Soft pastel on paper. 18"x24"
This still life demonstrates the texture of the macarons and the subtle, gentle, and lively tones of Paris.

Rabeeah Ali, Gentle Curves. 2014. Charcoal on paper. 18"x24".
The purpose of this figure drawing is to capture the organic shapes of the female body.

Rabeeah Ali, Untitled. 2015. Charcoal on paper. 18"x24".
In contrast to the female figure, the male figure is more geometric and angular as opposed to organic and flowing.

Rabeeah Ali, Head in the Clouds. 2015. Acrylic on canvas. 18"x24".
The purpose of this piece is to illustrate the beauty of the fabric and its flow and volume as well as the detail of the embellishments. The piece overall shows a girl thinking about fashion and the beauty of the gown she is wearing, and the clouds around her head suggest that she is in a daydream.

Rabeeah Ali, Eyes of Fear. October 2015. Acrylic on canvas. 18"x24".
This piece is intended to emphasize the ignorance of those who commit animal abuse. The palette is mainly monochromatic and the negative space is fairly empty to symbolize the lack of care of people who raise dogs for fighting; they simply blend into their surroundings. Because viewers naturally have an instant sympathy or affection for puppies as apposed to an older and tougher looking dog, a puppy conveys the message with more impact. In addition, the youth of the dog shows the carelessness abusers have for the age of the animal. The hands of the figure have an unfinished appearance to demonstrate the fact that there is not a specific type of person who mistreats animals, it is done by many people

Rabeeah Ali, Fashion Fur. 2016. Acrylic on canvas. 18"x24".
This piece is intended to depict the disrespect of the fashion world towards the lives of animals, specifically fur. The monochromatic color palette demonstrates the insignificance of the rabbits' lives, therefore they easily fade or blend into the model's fur coat. In fashion, fur is a symbol of luxury due to its price tag and texture; however it is really the outcome of unnecessary and cruel deaths of innocent creatures for the satisfaction of someone else. Not only is fashion fur a destruction to nature, but smoking cigarettes -- another common habit in the fashion world -- destroys human health as well. The deaths of animals, destruction of nature, and harm to humanity are all the results of human selfishness and ignorance.

Rabeeah Ali, Floating Planet. 2015. Mixed media: ink, gauche, & watercolor on paper. 18"x24".
This piece demonstrates the radiant beauty of the moon, as well as the way it stands out in a sea of stars. The title "Floating Planet" is significant because the paleness of the moon is so distinctive amongst the colorful universe. The watercolors help convey this as well. This piece reflects the way I hope to be seen one day for my future goals: to stand out in a radiantly beautiful way.

Yosemite Series:
For this project I have created a series of watercolor landscape studies of Yosemite. I intended to enhance my abilities with watercolor and challenge myself by creating scenes involving a variety of challenging aspects of nature. These include symmetry, different times of day, water reflections etc. I have intended to explore the concepts of geometric shapes in relation to nature.
I want to portray the perspectives in which viewers perceive both nature and art while exploring a combination of landscape studies and minimalism. The first piece of the series symbolizes the unity of the earth, demonstrated by the water, land and sky within a circle. In the second piece I have created the landscape in the shape of a square to support the idea of balance and symmetry in nature, as seen in the reflection of the mountains on the water. The last piece is significant because the triangle represents the apex of power, which is why I decided to illustrate Half Dome as the subject.

I have used a combination of mainly watercolor and some white acrylic. The purpose of using acrylic is for small detailing such as stars or snow, while watercolor creates the loose appearance of natural elements.
